Connection to family is vital for justice-involved individuals as they work toward reentering their communities. That's why CoreCivic is offering a new program called Storybook Dads, which helps fathers reconnect with their children. The program is currently offered at CoreCivic's Jenkins Correctional Center in Millen, Georgia.
With the help of staff members at Jenkins, participants record a video of themselves reading a book. Afterward, the video and book are sent to the residents' children so they can watch and read along. The goal of the program is to help build healthy family relationships and show the children they are loved and missed. One participant shared his thoughts on the program.
